<!--[if !vml]-->Deborah Chambers Chima<!--[endif]-->Welcome to the Leadership Solutions Newsletter!

Dear Friend,

The rules for continued career success are rewritten each day in this new work world of constant change.  It should be crystal clear that you must focus on prioritizing the enhancement of your skills like never before. Yes, despite the stress and work overload you are experiencing, you must step up your efforts to learn new skills and increase your value proposition.  When I think about the most valuable asset a leader can have in today's competitive, ever evolving business environment, it is the ability to demonstrate influential leadership behaviors.  The skill of being authentically collaborative and valued as an influential communicator is priceless.

As you navigate your way to success despite the challenges, strive to create a leadership brand that others seek out for support.  The privilege of becoming a valued resource will become your ticket to continued career success.

Remember, the future of your organization is based on a "we" not "me" mindset.

Question of the Month

The fast pace of today's workplace is very challenging.  Do you find it difficult to keep up with all the unwritten rules that seem to suddenly surface without any warning or communication?

To survive the continued turmoil that will be in place in 2010, you must quickly hone your ability to be ahead of the curve by improving your awareness of the environment.  Your objective is to discern opportunities within your environment where your leadership is viewed as a beacon of light as everyone deals with the constant change.

Here is the Challenge:

Your leadership skills must constantly be demonstrated at a high level of performance in order to ensure your value proposition stands out. Even on the days when you think no one is looking.  You must have constant awareness of what people are saying and thinking within your department or team.

Focus on viewing the work environment as an opportunity to show off your skills versus just a place where you work. For example, are you aware of what the organization's priorities are for the 1st quarter? You must have a level of awareness within your environment to the degree that you are constantly in the loop.  The goal is to ensure that your behaviors are always in alignment with the organization's current focus.  More important, what are you going to do to help achieve the priorities?

Strive to show up every day demonstrating awareness of the priorities of your department or team through your behaviors and communication.

Awareness of the environment is a necessary element you must quickly master.  If you desire to learn more about this dynamic, contact me to set up a complimentary 30-minute coaching consultation by phone.

Next month we will explore Part I of "Awareness of Self & Others" (Behaviors) Leadership Solutions A-C-Sゥ Coaching Model, so stay tuned.

The Power of Influential Communication

The Power of Influential Communication

"If a leader can't get a message across clearly and motivate others to act on it, then having a message doesn't even matter."

‾Gilbert Amelio

Have you ever experienced a time when you needed someone's agreement on a decision that you knew would vastly improve the results of your team, department or organization?  Think about it.  You enter the conversation with confidence because you really believe in your ideas.  You also have a belief that the other person has the same level of passion to achieve success.

Then it happens... you discover that you and the other person who is so critical to the success of your ideas, are not in alignment on the direction to take to reach the goal.  The next words you speak will determine your ability to influence the other person to take the direction you desire.  So what went wrong?  Suddenly it is clear that your strategy to achieve success is different than the strategy of either your peer, subordinate, or boss.  Now what?  I believe you must immediately focus on your ability to influence through your communication style.  The most important influence step you can take is to use your critical listening skills.
